Older People and Food Insecurity

Leeds Older People’s Forum’s mission is to ensure every older person in Leeds has the opportunities, freedom and support to live the life they choose.  To many of us, food is a joy, bringing family and friends together to eat, chat and enjoy life.  However, almost 4,000 older people in Leeds are living in food insecurity.

Our report on Food Insecurity & Older People in Leeds helps us understand the reasons behind that, some of which are financial, others structural.  The report recommends how, as #TeamLeeds, we can address the findings. We’ve also pulled some of the key data together and created a short webinar to accompany it.

These resources should be used in conjunction with:

  • Director of Public Health’s Annual Report: Ageing Well: Our Lives in Leeds
  • Leeds Health and Wellbeing Strategy
  • Joint Strategic Assessment
  • Leeds Food Strategy
  • Age Friendly Leeds Strategy and Action Plan
  • Leeds Best City Ambition’s three pillars

Our thanks go to the Leeds Public Health Ageing Well Team for funding the work and to Francesca Wood for such a comprehensive consideration of the issues and solutions.
