In July 2007 I applied for my first senior bus pass in person at Cross Gates Post Office. Since then I’ve used it to get all around Leeds and even to places like Bradford, Brighouse, Harrogate and Otley, and all for free, just provided that I travelled after 9:30 am on weekdays.
I’ve used my Bus Pass to get to meetings as a charity trustee, go shopping, volunteering, get to the rail station, go to the theatre and concerts, attend outdoor events in Leeds parks and much more.
The Bus Pass is available for anybody aged 66+ in. Nowadays, you can apply for and renew your senior bus pass online, but if that is a problem for you help is available via the Leeds Neighbourhood Network Schemes. These charities help older people who are digitally excluded to get and renew their senior bus passes. They can even take the photo digitally so no need for the expense of a passport photo. Or you can visit the Bus Station Travel Centre to do this in person.
And if you’re not old enough for a pass? Join us anyway to celebrate Catch the Bus Month.
