Here is a brief selection of our recent work, and what we expect to be doing next month.
In August, among other activities, we have…
- delivered 4-6 week digital courses at: Otley Action for Older People, MHA Communities South Leeds and STEP
- continued to gather monitoring and evaluation data about Enhance to inform a business case for funding beyond March 2025
- delivered a Wise Up to Ageism session to the staff team at Leeds Grand Theatre
- delivered a Dementia Friends session to staff from Sunny Bank Mills.
- delivered a session on setting up an Older People’s Forum for members of the UK Age Friendly Network. It was well received and we’ll repeat it in October.
- given feedback from the Age Friendly Steering Group on the design for Leeds Existing Station Programme for their Social Sustainability Coordinator for Bam Nuttall LTD.
- planned the pilot of Wise Up to Agesim for key stage 2 children at St.Bartholomew Primary School, Armley.
- delivered a bespoke dementia awareness session for Leeds International Piano Competition volunteers
In September, we expect to…
- meet with the next three partners and plan the sessions to deliver UK Shared Prosperity Fund digital sessions from October
- deliver a Digital Webinar with 100% Digital Leeds on BOSS as part of Leeds Digital Festival
- run a Digital Inclusion Network meeting with 100% Digital Leeds
- create an induction session for new Creative Healthy Ageing grant recipients
- say goodbye to Communications Officer, Rob, at LOPF since 2018
- deliver a a Wise Up to Ageism session to MHA staff
- deliver a Dementia Friends session to staff from Women’s Health Matters
- run a couple of new Good practice mentor sessions that will enable group organisers and trainers to run Warm Welcome training for group members
- deliver Wise Up to Ageism training, in Batley, for Kirklees Council community support staff, as part of the Good Practice Mentor UK wide work
- share the International Day of Older People flyer and programme for our 1st of October event at Headingley Stadium
- attend the Reimagining Ageing Showcase at Leeds University
- support reps from the Age Friendly Steering Group attending the Older People’s HUB meeting on the 2nd September at Age UK Leeds
- attend the preview (Leeds Playhouse, September 23) of Remembering What’s Forgotten exhibition, championing community and lived experience narratives to tackle the overrepresentation of black and South Asian men detained under the Mental Health Act in Leeds.
- support the Touchstone/Men’s Health Unlocked event “Walk a Mile in Our Shoes” around Leeds City Centre, which will showcase the 21st Century Man Art Trail, inspired by the voices and experiences of men in Leeds.
- promote the take-up of Pension Credit, and we urge organisations and individuals to join us
