As part of our year 7 plan, we have allocated funds to specifically support older LGBT+ people in Leeds and confront loneliness and social isolation in these communities. Research tells us that older LGBT people are especially vulnerable to loneliness as they are more likely to be single, live alone, and have lower levels of contact with relatives. They are also less likely to engage with local services.
Working in partnership with Leeds Community Foundation, this new round of Time to Shine Micro Funding aims to tackle these challenges and address loneliness and social isolation experienced by older LGBT+ people. This funding has been established to support small community groups and individuals who are delivering unique, grass roots activities that engage older LGBT+ people in creating opportunities to establish and maintain social connections.
Grants can be used to both kickstart completely new community activity for older LGBT+ adults and to develop further project activity within existing organisations for the benefit of older LGBT+ people. We welcome applications from individuals, who can apply for a grant of up to £500, and from both new and established community groups, who can apply for a grant of up to £2,500. Whilst planned activities must target and focus on older LGBT+ people, applicant organisations do not need to be exclusively LGBT+ and applications from older people’s groups who are piloting or running new LGBT+ focussed activity are welcomed.
