Time to Shine update: August 2020

Here is a brief summary of our recent work, and what we expect to be doing next month, as we move from the Covid response phase into the recovery phase.

July 2020

Our staff team continues to work effectively from home, with the challenges that brings.

We have:

  • continued to work with our delivery partners and through Time to Learn sessions captured the learning from the Covid-19 response period
  • produced Shine magazine fortnightly and distributed to over 4,000 older people with the support of partners across the city
  • continued to support Leeds City Council and voluntary sector agencies to provide a co-ordinated approach to Covid-19
  • promoted the Age Friendly Ambassadors programme through Shine magazine
  • trained almost 300 RU OK? volunteers for telephone support service and worked with partners in Leeds City Council to implement new service
  • launched the ‘Time to Shine a Light on Loneliness’ campaign and begun to gather stories
  • held regular skills sharing session with Neighbourhood Networks
  • began working with Let’s Dance agency on our legacy website
  • published a series of briefings on learning from Covid-19
  • met – in a socially distanced way – as a team, for the first time since March!

August 2020

Among other activities during this month, we expect to:

  • continue to capture learning from the local Covid-19 response
  • support delivery partners to prepare for the Covid-19 recovery phase
  • plan for potential sustainability for Shine Magazine
  • explore potential for Delivery Partners to work as consortia for future funding
  • Support the ‘soft closure’ of the RU OK? Project and work to link service users and volunteers to organisations for continued support
  • revise legacy plans in light of Covid-19 interruption
  • keep under review if and when we may return to being office based
