You are invited to a free event – Supporting older people with digital – led by 100% Digital Leeds, at Leeds Central Library on Tuesday 25 February.
We know that being online helps people to live better, easier, longer lives, and it is often those who lack digital skills and confidence who would most benefit from embracing tech.
Time to Shine projects got involved in lots of work around digital inclusion at the very start of the programme, and we produced a report on the Digital Angels project (October 2018).
Since then – as is the way with all things digital – everything has changed again. Leeds City Council 100% Digital project has been there to support organisations with the loan of equipment, training for digital champions, and lots of advice. Age UK Leeds has continued to offer support to individuals through their own Digital Champions.
Time to Shine projects, and other organisations across the city, have been working hard to support older people to make the most of the online world. Many older people are already discovering how they can live independently for longer by using online services to keep in touch with family and friends, stay healthy and active, and help their money go further.
We feel now is the time to get everyone together to share the ideas and knowledge gathered so far.
Time To Shine is working in partnership with 100% Digital Leeds and Age UK Leeds One Digital, to host this free event, bringing together people and organisations looking to support older people with digital inclusion, however far along they are with their digital journey.
If you’re working or volunteering with older people and are interested in digital inclusion, we would love to meet you. You don’t have to be doing any digital yet and we expect to see people from a range of different organisations including Neighbourhood Networks, community projects, and social groups of all sizes.
Whether you’re confident in engaging older people with digital or want to find out how to get started, you and your organisation will benefit from the contacts, practical learning, and hints and tips on offer at this event.
We’ve hand-picked some of the organisations already doing great digital inclusion work and asked them to share their successes and pass on learning. There will be a wealth of knowledge in the room so the second part of the session is handed over to you. Across the city there are people incorporating digital into their work in innovative ways, with tech being introduced to all sorts of sessions, from knitting groups to walking groups. We’d like to encourage organisations and Digital Champions to share the practical approaches and resources you have found most useful.
Whether it’s a great app you’ve found or an interesting way of using voice assistance tech that’s made all the difference to the people you support, we’d love to hear from you.
If you have something you’d like to share that you think will be of benefit to others supporting older people with tech, we’ll give you space at our marketplace-style skill share session. Let us know when you book your ticket.
