During my first few weeks as the new Time to Shine Learning Facilitator I was able to spend a bit of time seeing what great learning ideas I could steal from other Ageing Better projects. My first result is to set up Learning Lunches, informed by two other projects.
In Sheffield they were running Melting Pot lunches, and in Bristol they were meeting for a coffee and discussions about research items in a local café. One thing these events all had in common was a group of people interested in a specific subject, getting together to share ideas fairly informally.
My plan for Learning Lunches is to have an informal meeting, with a couple of presentations from those who have already done some work in the field, or who have a specific interest – then it’s open for discussion with everyone who is there. You might come because you know nothing but want to, or because you have an idea for your project and want to ‘road test’ it with interested colleagues before you start.
So I have set up the first few subjects for discussion. We are starting with some subjects we already have learning on within the Time To Shine programme, and I have gone for a range of time slots as well to see what works for people. From March we will be looking for subjects for meetings, either something you want to share or something you need to know about.
These events are free and open to anyone with an interest in the subject, not just those who are running TTS funded projects. Tea and coffee provided, but please bring your own food.
