Staff and volunteers from Age UK Leeds helped older people to connect with the world by getting online. They work 1-2-1 with people in their own homes and over the phone, and ran community based events – ‘techy tea-parties‘ as well.
They had to extend the time they offered support to people from 4 weeks to 8 weeks, as they learned what was needed, and found they needed volunteers with more technical expertise than they had originally envisaged. They were successful in offering volunteering opportunities to older men.
Overall they successfully reached some very isolated older people, developed creative ways of working and new partnerships that enabled them to extend their reach.
