Halfway through the Time to Shine programme, our findings include that we have not been successful enough in reaching socially isolated older people from BAME communities.
Feel Good Factor in Chapeltown already has strong connections with African-Caribbean communities in Northeast Leeds, and will take a variety of approaches to include individuals who have become disconnected from the people around them, including:
- Continuation of their Walk with Me project, helping people with mobility problem travel independently
- Feel Good Evening and Weekend Social Groups
- Cook and Eat Clubs
- IT Classes
The focus of project and its activities will be to reduce loneliness, social isolation, ensure older people are at the heart of the project and its development and, are invested in and supported to make a difference for themselves and for others.
Participants will primarily be of African Caribbean descent aged 60 years and over residing in the 10% most deprived areas of Northeast Leeds. The project will use person-centred approaches in reaching older people who are lacking in confidence and the support needed to get out of the home.
