Cara’s song is going for a song. Due to popular demand ‘Cara Song’, Cara’s reworked rendition of Cliffs of Dooneen, is now available to download for £1.
The Cara project is currently funded by the Big Lottery Fund as part of Time To Shine.
All funds raised will support continuation of the project which is due to close in March.
Cara means “friend” in Irish. Volunteers visit older people of Irish heritage in their homes to make sure they can stay connected as they reach later life. Support is offered to help people get involved in social and cultural activities and to meet old and new friends.
Older people can be at risk of losing touch with the communities they used to be a part of. Leeds Irish Health and Homes reach out specifically to those of Irish heritage to make sure that they can stay connected as they reach later life.
Dedicated staff and volunteers visit people in their homes and over time support them to re-engage in activities important to them and their culture and help to develop friendship networks.
The Cara project helps to make sure that if you’re an older person in Leeds you’ve got a friend.
