Time to Shine Update – February 2016

Time to Shine Update

We are very happy to announce that the Time to Shine website launched on 28 January. Here you can find all the information about the background, structure, and activities of the project.  We will also keep the site up to date with open funding opportunities

The good work of our partners continues to reach socially isolated older people around the city. A few highlights:

A Gay Old Time*
jointly delivered by Yorkshire Mesmac and Age UK Leeds, has employed Jude Woods as their Community Development worker. Jude will be coordinating a steering group to identify the needs of the LGBT*Q population in Leeds and organise appropriate activities in response. Jude has been getting out to various groups in Leeds to spread the word about the project and to encourage people to get involved. For more information, do get in touch!j.woods@mesmac.co.uk *Working Title

BME Networks,
delivered by Health for All, continues to offer activities to reach out to the Sikh and Hindu elders and to date they have engaged 13 new participants and done 20 home visits. They are setting up new social and support groups, including helping one to develop a constitution and open a bank account. One of the goals of Time to Shine is to create sustainable ongoing activities which will continue long after the Big Lottery funding has completed, so Health for All is on target to helping that happen. For further information please get in touch with Toshal:toshal.bhatia@healthforall.org.uk

Walk with Me,
delivered by Feel Good Factor, aims to increase older people’s independence by matching them with volunteers to support them in walking. Their project worker Jeff has been meeting with local groups to recruit intergenerational volunteers and promote the project, and has set up a steering group made of up of volunteers who are interested in helping. Keep an eye on the Time to Shine website for updates about this exciting project! Please contact Jeff for more information: jeff@fgfleeds.org

Can I pick your brains?

Hello, I am currently looking at lots of different options for the Time to Shine training program and would really like to engage a type of focus group to get people opinions about what I am thinking of doing. It just really a chance to have a cup of tea and talk through a few options so I can get some really valuable opinions! It really won’t take up much of your time –  we can meet face to face or just have a chat over the phone. I would really appreciate your thoughts and opinions to help me make the Time to Shine training the very best it can be. Please contact me at Hanna@opforum.org.uk to ask any questions or volunteer your time!
